Located on the east half of Lot 12, Concession 9, which was originally granted to Joseph Marr in 1816. In 1816, Joseph Marr sold the eastern 100 acres to John Reesor. John Reesor sold the east half lot to Christian Reesor in 1846. Christian Reesor bequeathed the property to Nicholas Reesor. A house is illustrated at this location on the 1853-54 and 1878 Maps. The 1851 Census lists Christian G. Reesor and family in a two storey stone house on Lot 12, Concession 9. The Ministry of Revenue Regional Assessment Office Ontario database lists the building as constructed in 1850. The date of construction has been set at c. 1850, and Christian Reesor likely constructed the home. Christian Reesor was the second son of John and Annie (Grove) Reesor and grandson of Christian and Fanny (Reiff) Reesor. He married Susan Burkholder and together they had five children: Elizabeth, Anna, Henry B., Nicholas E. and Joshua. Nicholas Reesor took over his father's farm and was also choir leader at the Locust Hill Methodist Church for many years. Nicholas married Sarah Reesor. Their only daughter, Jessie Viola Reesor married William J. Cowie. They took over the farm on Lot 12, Concession 9 after Nicholas retired. |
